Story

High school student Takumi Fujiwara works as a gas station attendant during the day and a delivery boy for his father's tofu shop during late nights. Little does he know that his precise driving skills and his father's modified Toyota Sprinter AE86 Trueno make him the best amateur road racer on Mt. Akina's highway. Because of this, racing groups from all over the Gunma prefecture issue challenges to Takumi to see if he really has what it takes to be a road legend.

居住在群马县涉川市秋名山的普通18岁高中生藤原拓海,因为从初中一年级时就被开豆腐店父亲文太逼着在凌晨开车送豆腐到秋名山顶的饭店，连续5年从未间断 过而锻炼出超高水准的驾驶技术。 在秋名山赛车队——speedstar的池谷（也是拓海在加油站的打工前辈）、健二，好友武内树，女友茂木夏树，父亲文太，裕一（加油站老板，文太的老朋 友）等人的帮助下，拓海逐渐成长起来，也慢慢意识到自己是热爱赛车的。

从第一战击败了赤城最速的车队“REDSUNS”鼎梁支柱高桥 凉介、启介兄弟俩中的弟弟启介开始，拓海连续战胜了妙义山“NightKids”的首领中里毅，“KightKids”的第二把交椅庄司慎吾（比赛的方法 是“死亡胶布赛”，即用胶布绑住右手，这样方向盘无法扭尽！），锥水山的最快——蓝色SIL-80（车手是一对漂亮MM真子与沙雪，此战在锥水山展开）， 雨中在妙义山打败了“REDSUNS”的第二把交椅候补中村贤太。

在头文字第一部的最后，拓海接受了来自“REDSUNS”高桥凉介 的挑战，凉介被誉为“赤城的白色彗星”，可以说是群马县的领袖，无论是在运动赛、公路赛上都保持着不败的记录。二人实力不分上下，最后拓海堪堪胜出。凉介 微笑着留给拓海一句话：“不要着眼于眼前，向更广阔的世界前进吧！
